I guess the drainage of the fens and bogs for agriculture played their part, even the bog sprite Tiddy Mun eventually disappeared they say, but fortunately, a Mr Jack Penny from Wisbech caught him on film recently dancing on a stone by a pond, please do check out this amazing footage of him dancing on a stranger stone, that was included in the video for Wergulu Blues new single “Tiddy Mun”

Yes, smugglers definitely played their part. I think a lot of the Norfolk Black Shuck stories are smugglers tales (perhaps not so much some of the Suffolk ones and more recent sightings) And the advice of lying flat on the ground until the lights had gone would definitely aid someone up to no good!
