Folklore Fieldwork: An Introduction
Delving into the depths of folklore, myths & traditions from Norfolk & beyond.
Folklore, ritual, pagan rites and magick have been an interest of mine that has laid somewhat dormant for the past few years due to the hectic nature of managing/wrangling a young family and the mundanities of life. Since moving to North Norfolk five years ago this slumbering enthusiasm has been awakening and, just recently, roaring for my attention! So here I am, armed with notepad, wellies and a pile of folklore books (kindly gifted to me this past Christmas by my slightly bemused husband) in an attempt to un-earth mysteries of the bygone, satiate my curiosity and share my findings along the way.
Beginning from my base in deepest Norfolk I will be investigating stories of fae (few and far between), legends & cultural heritage through research and fieldwork. There seems to be somewhat of a dearth of evidence, archaeological exploration and surviving ritualistic festivities in my adopted home town but I’ve discovered a few leads to follow which I trust will reveal their secrets and more threads to pull.
My first field of investigation involves a Bronze Age round barrow, the enclosure act of 1807 and the missing fairies of Norfolk. I will endeavour to return with my findings promptly!
All this researching and writing takes me quite a while. If you’d like to support my work but don’t want to commit to a monthly subscription please consider ‘buying me a coffee’ through my Ko-fi page so I can continue to share my findings.

I think what you’re doing is wonderful! I similarly couldn’t let my interests and passions sit back anymore which is why I’ve started The Lantern Post and Quid Creepers a collection of zines on Fen Folklore but doing field investigation on local folklore is awesome!
Looking forward to learning with you. My interest is not dormant but bubbles along, never really reaching boiling point. If you’re near Norwich pop into the cathedral and take a look at the fabulous Green Men there.
